Hi everyone,
Welcome to a new year at Weldon and another year of Domus! Domus Legis has been part of Dal Law since 1965, and I’m so excited for what the Domus executives have in the works for our 51st year. You can expect the classic events we all know and love, but we’re also adding new themes and venues to make the 2025/2026 year unforgettable.
We all know that Domus is a beloved part of many alumni’s law school experience and that it sets us apart from other schools. Domus is a space where we can step away from the demands of law school and just enjoy spending time with each other. It serves as an important reminder that law school is about more than just the work. And it’s why our sense of community is so strong across the entire student body.
The role of Domus in the social life at Schulich is particularly important for 1Ls. For many, Domus is where they build friendships that will last a lifetime. In my experience, I struggled the first few weeks of 1L to find my place and make friends – but it was social events like Domus that helped me connect with classmates and build a community of people that have supported me throughout my law school experience. This year, I hope we can extend that same warm welcome to the incoming 1Ls and help them feel excited about the years that lie ahead at Schulich.
I also want to emphasize that Domus is a space for everyone in the Schulich community. It is important to the entire executive team that every law student feels welcome, comfortable, and safe coming to our events. That means all attendees need to put a real effort into treating each other with respect and looking out for one another. We have zero tolerance for behaviour that is inappropriate or disrespectful.
I look forward to seeing as many students as possible at our events this year. Whether it’s on the water at Boatmus, on the dance floor at Boomers, or dressed up for Hallodomus, I hope you’ll join in and make great memories with us.
See you soon,
Sybil Danyk-White
